2nd Wind: Your New Beginning

As we enter into a new month, we are excited to bring back our Life in the Light Devotional series.

Pastor Taj says transformation requires transparency. So here we go. After I found out I was pregnant with my youngest child, I clearly heard the Lord say “second wind”. I had already resolved in my heart and mind that I was blessed to be the proud mother of one very handsome, intelligent and witty little brown prince. After my husband overheard him calling his favorite toy Elmo his brother, we decided that we wanted to give him a real sibling that wasn’t furry and could actually talk back to him. Given my age and previous medical history I thought that it would be another long process to pregnancy. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I was shocked to see that positive pregnancy test sitting in the bathroom, in the same spot where I had seen so many negative tests years before. I imagine that it’s similar to how Hannah, in 1 Samuel chapter 1, might’ve felt when she went from sorrowful prayers and pleas, to pregnant belly and childbirth, to chapter 2 where she’s famously declaring a triumphant prayer and rejoicing in the sovereignty of God. Second chapter. Second wind.

If you grew up in the church like me you have probably heard that 8 is the number for new beginnings. As we enter into the month of August, I recommend that you take time to acknowledge that this could be the beginning of your second wind chapter. Like Hannah and like my story, God can suddenly blow and change the narrative of your life, no matter how permanent you think the situation might be. Nothing can withstand the power of God when He decides to deliver you and bless you.

Prayer:
Dear God, I submit my hurt, disappointment, past mistakes and pain to you. I trust you with my life. Send a second wind of hope, encouragement and inspiration my way. I receive a fresh start today. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
