"New Year, New You in Christ"
“The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Psalms 32:8 NLT
New Year's resolutions are a common practice for many at the top of the year. Some focus on losing weight, establishing healthier habits, increasing wealth, or becoming a better parent and/or spouse. Sometimes we’re successful in keeping those resolutions and other times they fall by the wayside after a few weeks.
This year, be intentional with becoming a “new you in Christ” daily. Write down your spiritual goals and place them somewhere that will serve as a daily reminder. To help set those goals, think about what God is calling you to do. Have you been obedient to it? Think about the times that you may have handled a situation the wrong way and what could’ve prepared you to do it differently, in a way that would bring glory to God.
Are you spending time with God daily? Maybe He’s calling you to spend the first 30 minutes of your day with Him instead of the few minutes you give on your commute to work. Maybe He’s urging you to read His Word more instead of just when you’re at church or when something is wrong. Your spiritual goals will look different from others because none of our walks are the same. However, each of us have areas that we can surrender over to God and be more committed. None of us have arrived at “spiritual perfection” and we never will on this side.
Prayer:
God, thank you for another year to bring glory to your name. This year, I surrender my desires and plans to you and commit to doing things your way. God, I trust your heart even when I don't understand your plan. Help me to stay connected to you in all that I say and do. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen!
